The University of Georgia (UGA) seeks an accomplished, strategic, and collaborative leader to serve as its next University Registrar and Executive Director of Curriculum Management (“University Registrar”). The University Registrar reports directly to the Vice President for Instruction and Senior Vice Provost for Academic Planning (VPI) and serves on the VPI Leadership Team. The University Registrar provides strategic leadership for the Office of the University Registrar and plays a key role in the university's academic operations, overseeing a broad portfolio that includes core University Registrar operations, as well as curriculum systems, academic policy implementation, student progression initiatives, and related institutional planning. UGA's University Registrar is deliberately positioned within the Office of Instruction, reflecting the broad scope of the role which works closely with academic leaders across the institution and serves as an important partner in curriculum development, academic process design, and student success efforts.
UGA seeks a University Registrar who can provide critical data-driven, collaborative leadership and work collaboratively across campus to support the University's commitment to student success and instructional excellence consistent with UGA's 2031 Strategic Plan. Position Overview
This is a rare and substantively distinctive opportunity in the national registrar profession: the role combines the full scope of a flagship university registrar with direct responsibility for UGA's curriculum governance systems, the institutional infrastructure through which faculty-approved academic programs, courses, and degree requirements are managed, published, and implemented. The University Registrar reports directly to the Vice President for Instruction and Senior Vice Provost for Academic Planning and serves on the VPI Leadership Team with the Vice Provost for Enrollment Management and two Associate Vice Presidents for Instruction. The University Registrar provides support and guidance to the Vice President for Instruction as needed in areas including, but not limited to, curriculum, student success initiatives, faculty governance, and academic program proposals. This role also represents the office on committees and inorganizations at the university, state, and national level. This role works collaboratively with other offices in managing enrollment, curricular issues, academic advising, class schedules, and classroom space management, which informs the Institution's strategy and directs its best efforts in the successful attainment of students' educational goals.
The University Registrar provides guidance to campus leadership concerning curriculum development and approval and resolution of student issues and is the liaison with the University System of Georgia (USG) concerning curriculum and the Chief Transfer Officer for the university serving on USG committees as needed. The University Registrar is responsible for supporting and implementing university and VPI student success initiatives including the recently launched new digital Comprehensive Learner Record, as well as the First-Year Odyssey Seminar and Double Dawgs program. The University Registrar oversees the development, implementation, and maintenance of student and curriculum systems. The University Registrar is a professional who with the goal of student success, collaborates across campus and appreciates the role of the University Registrar's Office in the larger institutional context, is collaborative, able to engage diverse constituencies, and works to ensure everyone across the institution is part of conversations on student success. The University Registrar provides leadership, strategic planning, organization, and direction for all functional areas of the Office of the University Registrar and is responsible for the budget.
Required/Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in a related field and 12 years of professional experience to include 3years in a leadership role.
Preferred Qualifications:
• A Master's or terminal degree.
• Experience leading or participating in Student Information Systems implementations, upgrades, or major system change management projects.
• Experience in a R1 or comparable complex research institution.
• Active engagement with AACRAO, SACRAO, or equivalent professional registrar associations.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and/or Competencies:
• Experience at a large, comprehensive institution with a record of leading and developing professional staff teams in a complex, high-volume academic environment.
• Collaboration with other offices including Bursar's Office, IT Services, Office of Institutional Research, Student Financial Aid, and Admissions to serve student needs and ensure compliance with national and state regulations as well as reporting requirements.
• Understanding of and significant work with large Student Information Systems.
• Strong knowledge of curriculum policies and procedures.
• Experience with academic policy development and compliance.
• Leadership and expertise in the implementation and maintenance of student information systems and curriculum systems including responsibility and accountability for student data ownership.
• Ability to provide overall leadership of the Office of the University Registrar, including recruitment, selection, and performance management and development of staff of the Office of the University Registrar; budget development and management; and leadership in the use of technology to support and enhance services.
• Responsibility for ensuring timely entry and validation of student data.
• Experience using technology to solve problems and make future improvements.
• Strong understanding of analytics for decision‐making purposes.
• Strong management and organization skills, attention to detail, and ability to implement new policies and procedures.
• Experience successfully implementing university-wide initiatives.
• Commitment to on‐time project completion and change management.
• Strong working knowledge of FERPA and other federal compliance mandates and proven leadership in FERPA compliance, training of staff and faculty, and of best practices related to student records.
• The person occupying this position must have the highest ethical standards.
• Strong communication skills, verbal and written, with wide variety of constituents toward championing collaboration on student success strategies.
• Ability to comply with regulatory requirements with respect to student academic records and other documents.
• Student-centered, focused on quality service, and student access, success, retention, and graduation, with an efficient customer-service mindset.
• Experience working with institutional governance.
